Customer Case Study

Improved Spacer Mesh for Crib Bumper

Breathablebaby™ found that the common 3mm, 180gsm spacer mesh used in crib bumpers was not enough. While breathable, it lacked stability and rebound, so babies could still feel hard impact. They needed a better solution—but without significantly increasing cost.

Mefiss Solution

Our Solution

Step 1

Targeted Cost-Control Upgrade

Instead of simply increasing thickness or using more expensive materials, we focused on improving the internal structure. The goal was to enhance performance while keeping the fabric within a reasonable cost range for large-scale crib bumper production.

Step 2

20% Monofilament Increase

We increased the middle monofilament density by about 20%, which directly improved the internal support structure. This made the fabric feel fuller and more supportive, while still maintaining the breathable spacer mesh construction.

Step 3

Rounder Mesh & Higher GSM

After adjustment, the fabric reached around 220gsm, with a more rounded and uniform mesh appearance. This helped improve both visual quality and dimensional stability compared to the standard 180gsm market fabric.

Step 4

Lower Stretch Better Rebound

The optimized structure reduced stretch and improved rebound performance. This allowed the crib bumper to maintain its shape better and reduced the hard impact feeling when babies touched or bumped into it.

Outcome

Results

The improved spacer mesh successfully balanced cost, breathability, stability, and cushioning, and has been continuously used by Breathablebaby™ in their crib bumper products.
