In 2015, CrowndLove discovered a newborn bassinet concept at the Kind + Jugend exhibition in Germany and identified strong potential in China. However, during localization, they needed a safer and more breathable solution than latex or memory foam, which were considered too hot and risky for newborn use.

Step 1

Material Direction Shift


Initial options like latex and memory foam were evaluated but quickly ruled out due to heat retention and potential suffocation concerns in newborn scenarios. The focus shifted toward a fully breathable structure, where airflow and safety would become the core design logic rather than secondary features.


Step 2

Full Mesh Structure


A complete 3D spacer mesh solution was proposed. The surface layer used BD2D-11B (100% DTY yarn) to create a soft, skin-friendly touch. Unlike traditional layered materials, this approach ensured that even the contact surface maintained airflow while remaining gentle for newborn skin.


Step 3

Zoned Support Design


Different areas were engineered with specific mesh structures: the surrounding frame used 15mm T2S-26N large-hole mesh for support, wrapped with AC1 mesh for better appearance; the core sleeping area used 20mm T2S-6Q mesh to provide stable, long-lasting support without collapsing over time.


Step 4

End-to-End Production


The solution was not only material-based but also manufacturing-driven. Through Mefiss Hometex, we directly completed the finished product, ensuring consistency from fabric development to final assembly, especially in maintaining structure integrity and airflow performance.

Results

The fully breathable mesh bassinet quickly gained popularity in China, achieving leading online sales by the end of 2015 and becoming a benchmark product. This structure later influenced many baby brands and evolved into a key product direction in the industry.
