In 2019, we began working with a U.S. indoor sports client developing golf simulator products. During the early pandemic, they proposed a new project—custom fabric for golf impact screens. The requirements were demanding: 320cm width, NFPA 701 flame resistance, strong tear resistance, and a smooth surface for clear projection.

Step 1

Complex Requirement Alignment


From the beginning, this project combined multiple high-level requirements. The fabric needed to handle high-frequency golf ball impact without tearing, while maintaining a flat and delicate surface to ensure projection clarity and uniformity. At the same time, it had to meet NFPA 701, which added another layer of complexity.


Step 2

Wide Width Development


Before this project, we had limited experience producing spacer mesh at 320cm width. This meant not only adjusting knitting structures, but also ensuring the entire production line—from machine setup to fabric tension—could support stable ultra-wide manufacturing without distortion.


Step 3

Structure & Process Optimization


We worked simultaneously on knitting structure design, yarn combination optimization, and finishing processes. Special attention was given to improving surface flatness, fabric stiffness, and tear resistance, while also ensuring flame-retardant performance through controlled finishing treatments.


Step 4

Multi-Round Testing


The development was not completed in one step. We went through three full rounds of sampling, each time adjusting heat-setting parameters and functional finishing processes. Continuous testing and fine-tuning ensured that both physical performance and surface quality met real application needs.


Outcome

Results

The final fabric, BD2D-3A (4mm thickness, 320cm width, 460gsm), successfully passed flame-retardant and physical performance tests. It entered stable mass production and has since been widely used in indoor golf simulator screens, becoming a mature solution in this segment.
