At a 2018 exhibition, we started working with Foru, a premium baby brand in China with strong offline retail presence. Their product manager had a very practical idea—develop a rollable, portable, breathable nap mat for kindergarten use, where mattress sizes vary and comfort still matters.

Step 1

Real Scenario Understanding

In many kindergartens, beds are not standardized, and some don’t even provide mattresses. That meant the product had to be lightweight, easy to carry, and flexible in size. At the same time, it still needed to be comfortable enough for children’s daily naps.


Step 2

Layered Structure Design


We designed a multi-layer 3D mesh structure. The top and bottom used 3mm AC1 mesh to keep the surface flat and breathable. Inside, two layers of 15mm T2D-26N through-hole mesh were added, giving the mat enough support and rebound without making it bulky.


Step 3

Stability & Portability Balance


The four layers were combined through quilting, keeping the structure stable during daily use. The final thickness was close to 4cm—thick enough for support, but still light and flexible enough to be rolled up and carried easily by parents or kids.


Step 4

Seasonal & Practical Upgrades


To make it more practical, our hometex dept developed a removable cover for this mat. One side used bubble fleece for cooler seasons, and the other used cooling fabric for warmer weather. For carrying, a cylindrical nonwoven storage bag was added, making daily transport simple and neat.

Results

The product quickly became a popular choice for parents during the back-to-school season. It continues to sell steadily as a practical and comfortable nap solution for kindergarten children.
