Around 2015, China began restricting the use of disposable hotel amenities. This pushed many hotel suppliers to rethink their products. Traditional nonwoven slippers were cheap but single-use, not washable, and hard to sanitize—so naturally, many clients started looking for a reusable alternative.

Step 1

Rethinking the Material


At the beginning, several clients tried using regular spacer mesh, but quickly ran into problems—too soft, not durable enough, and shape didn’t hold after washing. It became clear that this wasn’t just about switching materials, but redesigning the structure for repeated use.


Step 2

Stronger Surface Design


We developed a dedicated fabric (BC2-2B1) with a much stronger surface. By using 300D144F yarn instead of standard finer yarns, the surface became significantly more abrasion-resistant. This made a big difference, especially for slippers used on different floor types every day.


Step 3

Reinforced Inner Structure


Instead of the usual 30D spacer yarn, we used thicker 8s monofilament as the support layer and increased the thickness to about 5mm. The result was a firmer structure with better rebound, helping the slippers keep their shape even after multiple washes and high-temperature disinfection.


Step 4

Washable & Antibacterial Upgrade


Later on, we introduced microwave antibacterial treatment—no chemicals added. After testing, the fabric could still maintain stable antibacterial performance even after around 150 wash cycles, which made it much more suitable for repeated hotel use.


Outcome

Results

Compared to traditional 3mm mesh slippers, this solution offered much better durability and shape retention. It gradually became a preferred material for mid-to-high-end reusable hotel slippers, balancing hygiene, comfort, and long-term cost efficiency.
