Tencel Spacer Mesh for Baby Pillow

At the 2014 Canton Fair, we began working with P.Health, a premium baby product company focused on infant pillows. At that time, most spacer mesh fabrics were polyester-based. The client wanted a plant-based mesh fabric that could directly contact baby skin, improving softness, safety, and overall user experience.

Step 1

Natural Fiber Exploration


Multiple natural fiber options were tested through real production trials. Linen fibers showed a rough and stiff hand feel, unsuitable for babies. Bamboo fibers tended to fuzz and pill during use. Cotton fibers expanded after repeated washing, affecting structural stability and long-term performance.


Step 2

Material Selection Decision


Based on repeated testing and evaluation, we selected TENCEL™ fiber from Lenzing AG as the surface material. Its smooth surface, uniform structure, and moisture management properties made it more suitable for sensitive baby skin applications.


Step 3

Functional Performance Validation


The Tencel™ surface provided good breathability and moisture transfer while maintaining a soft touch. In addition, antibacterial performance was verified through testing by Intertek, showing better results compared to polyester and cotton under controlled conditions.


Step 4

Certified Fabric Development


The final fabric, BD2T-7F, successfully achieved first-level certification from Lenzing. By combining plant-based surface fibers with spacer mesh structure, we created a material that balanced skin-friendliness, durability, and functional performance for baby products.


Outcome

Results

The Tencel spacer mesh fabric gained strong recognition in the baby care market and gradually became a representative solution for skin-friendly functional fabrics in infant pillow applications.
